Introducing Deborah Mahon, The Gourmet Farm Girl®
Upon meeting Deborah Mahon, Founder of The Gourmet Farm Girl, rest assured that you have crossed paths with an authentic farm girl. Born and raised on a Dairy and Grain Farm in Bucyrus, Ohio, (read more about the farm here) this genuine and wholesome entrepreneur is creating, sustaining and growing her loyal customer base because of the wholesome, all-natural soups, chilis and seasoning blends she proudly produces.
Throughout her professional journey in Retail, Insurance, Publishing, Food Service and Specialty Food Brokering, Deborah gained the vast knowledge to create her solid business foundation. On the flip side, she grew up on a farm settled in the 1830’s, which has been in her family for seven generations. “Farm work is hard work and it teaches you a lot about resiliency and determination.” As Deborah left the farm in Bucyrus and moved to Lewis Center then to Delaware, Ohio, she insisted upon having a garden to grow vegetables and herbs. “I was surprised to discover that most people don’t garden….I thought to myself, Why doesn’t everyone do this!”
Growing farm fresh produce is her way of life, so Deborah is fortunate to be able to incorporate this passion for gardening and cooking into her Company, The Gourmet Farm Girl, which launched in 2010. From the onset of sharing recipes and subsequently self-publishing The Gourmet Farm Girl Cookbook, Deborah’s priority and commitment is to wholesome, all-natural, preservative-free, gluten-free foods. Her soups, chilis and seasoning blends are uniquely packaged in glass jars, which allow the customer to see the quality of the fresh ingredients along with the vibrant colors. “I believe in good food from the heart.” Intertwined amongst one-hundred-plus cookbook recipes, you will discover photos and personal stories which are a tribute to Deborah’s family and heritage.
As the demand for all-natural and local foods has evolved, The Gourmet Farm Girl positioned her products in 84+ locations including Ohio and other states. Her intentions are to continue to expand into additional markets. Inside Kroger, one can find the products within “Nature’s Market,” “Discover Local” kiosks, or within the Soup aisle. The Gourmet Farm Girl products are also carried at fine markets such as Hill’s Market, Huffman’s, Lucky’s, Celebrate Local and Dorothy Lane Markets in Dayton. Deborah is sensitive to busy households, schedules and time demands, so if you do not have time to stop at the grocery store, her products can be ordered via TheGourmentFarmGirl.com Shop.
It is not uncommon to find Deborah sampling her products at Local Farmer’s Markets, In-Store Grocery Promotions, Home & Garden Shows or Specialty Food Shows. “I love to provide tastings, as it gives me the opportunity to gain immediate customer feedback. The comments and suggestions I receive are taken very seriously, as this is the best face-to-face interaction that I can hope for. It is a joy for me to see families try the products together and purchase good, wholesome foods to take home and enjoy.”
One of the keys to Deborah Mahon’s success is surrounding herself with positive mentors, such as the dynamic Co-Founder of Glory Foods. Additionally, family plays a significant role, including both her husband Brian, and her father, who has been a farmer his entire life. Deborah gains inspiration from her mother, who passed away in 1993, as well as strength and courage from her grandmother. We have Deborah’s family to thank for the manner in which she was raised, for encouraging her to believe in herself and to pursue her dreams. Deborah’s journey blends her business savvy and tenacity, with a love for cooking and gardening. No doubt, The Gourmet Farm Girl is doing what she was born to do!
